The Moses Lake Breastfeeding Coalition was formed in 2003. The goal of the coalition is to "promote, protect, and support breastfeeding in the Moses Lake community so that good nutrition at birth is basic part of good nutrition throughout life." MLBC is one of 23 local coalitions throughout the state and is a member of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington.

The Healthy Communities Moses Lake Advisory Committee selected breastfeeding support because breast-milk is the best nutrition for an infant, can help reduce illnesses and obesity in the child and mother. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that human milk is the preferred feeding for all infants and recommends that breastfeeding continue for at least the first 12 months of life. Current breastfeeding practices in Moses Lake fall short of recommendations for the country based on the Healthy People 2010 objectives.

Milk Matters Magazine is here! The Moses Lake Breastfeeding Coalition has put together a magazine for the Moses Lake area that provides information about local breastfeeding resources as well as lots of articles and information to help moms be successful at breastfeeding. Look for a copy of Milk Matters at the local clinic waiting rooms. Or to pick up your own copy, stop by Baby Naturally on 3rd Ave.

City of Moses Lake passes a Breastfeeding Resolution!

The Coalition brought before the City Council a request to adopt a resolution in support of breastfeeding to show mothers and the community that the city supports and encourages breastfeeding within the City of Moses Lake. Here's what the resolution says:

Recognizing that mothers have a right to breastfeed wherever they go with their baby even if that is out in public, the City supports a mother’s right to breastfeed on public or private property where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be, and encourages our citizens to recognize the benefits of breastfeeding and allow a mother to breastfeed anywhere any other person is allowed to be.
